Braves Take Game 1 of World Series Against Astros in Dominant Fashion

The Atlanta Braves took a commanding lead in the World Series, defeating the Houston Astros 6-2 in Game 1. The visiting team won every game in 2019, and last year's Series was played at a neutral site in Arlington, Texas.

Braves ace Charlie Morton gave up five runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings, but Atlanta's bullpen came through to shut the door. Luke Jackson, Tyler Matzek, and Will Smith finished the game for the Braves, who improved to 1-0 in World Series openers.

The Astros fell to 0-4 in World Series openers, with Jose Urquidy taking the loss after allowing six runs over 1 2/3 innings. Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman went a combined 0 for 8 with three strikeouts, and the team never seriously threatened in the later innings.

Atlanta's Dansby Swanson and Correa scored on a fielding error and groundout respectively, while the Astros' only runs came from shortstop Carlos Correa's groundout in the eighth. The All-Star second baseman struck out three times, a rare feat for him.

Braves backup catcher William Contreras and starter Travis d'Arnaud had some fun during the seventh-inning stretch, doing a little Texas two-step as they warmed up pitcher Jackson. The game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicated, with Atlanta relievers Luke Jackson, Tyler Matzek, and Will Smith finishing it off.

The Braves will look to take Game 2 on Wednesday, while the Astros will try to even the series in Game 3.
